Superfood Cooler Than Your Superheroes
I’m sure you have all seen on your Instagram feed pictures of these fruits mixed with yogurt that is so pretty it’s so Instagram worthy. But what are they? These have been called superfood, and what is superfood you may ask? According to the American Heart Association, it is more specifically a marketing term used to describe foods that have a truckload of health benefits. These foods are usually mixed with diary products, mostly yogurt.
Here we list you our favourite popular superfood, and its benefits, that you could fit into your diet on days you might think you lack nutritions:
These are ranked top in the list of favourite superfood. They have high levels of anti-oxidants that will protect your body against cancer, heart diseases and reduces any age-related illnesses.
2. Chia Seeds
Many of my female friends especially love adding chia seeds because of the benefits it brings. One tablespoon of chia seeds would provide your body with enough calcium, omega-3 fatty acids and fibre.
3. Salmon and Sardines
These fatty fishes are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids help to lower the risk of heart diseases. About 2 servings of salmon will suffice the entire week!
4. Greek Yogurt
Yogurt greatly improves one’s digestive system and boosts immunity. Commonly, this would be mixed in with other superfood, or you could just add this in to your daily fruit snack for a little healthy punch!
5. Kale and Spinach
According to research, kale actually has more iron than your favourite steak and more vitamin C than your citrus fix. If you’ve been having too much seafood, getting a little kale actually can help lower your cholesterol levels. So why not eat it with those cholesterol and balance it out?
Of course, how could one forget about oats? Oats make very good breakfast intake because of its richness in fibre, vitamin B, magnesium and many other minerals and nutrients. Magnesium, for those who are confused with the science’s version of this metallic element, is required for nerve function, blood sugar control, blood pressure regulation and metabolism. Look at all that benefits! This would therefore be good for those who have diabetes and want to have their sugar levels in check.
7. Sweet Potato
Last on the list of top superfood we recommend is sweet potato! As a typical potato, sweet potatoes provide the fibre your body needs, and taking one a day gives you more than enough Vitamin A to last the day! What’s good about sweet potatoes is that you do not have to add on anything for flavour, and it is packed with flavour on its own.
That’s all on our favourite superfood! Try out these superfood and make your body happy! Your body would thank you for consuming the right food!
