What is Cholesterol?

It is compound of the sterol type found in most body tissues. Cholesterol and its derivatives are important constituents of cell membranes and precursors of other steroid compounds, but high concentrations in the blood are thought to promote atherosclerosis.

Here are some tips to lower your cholesterol naturally:

1.)   Limit your intake of foods full of saturated fats, trans fats, and dietary cholesterol.

Examples of food to avoid: Butter, Red Meat, Full-fat and Low-fat diary products, Palm Oil, Coconut Oil

2.)   Eat a lot more fiber-rich foods

Examples: Beans, Oats, Fruits, Vegetables

3.)   Choose protein-rich plant foods over meat.

Examples: peas, and beans, such as pinto beans, red beans, white beans, and soybeans.

4.)   Take plant sterol supplements

Sterols are naturally occurring substances found in plants. A daily intake of 1 to 2 grams of plant sterols has been shown to lower LDL cholesterol levels.

Good luck and stay healthy!
