Going COCONUTS!

Lush dark hair and smooth golden skin of people in coconut growing countries convinces us that coconut oil improves the moisture and lipid content of the skin. It also protects hair from environmental damage and acts as sunscreen blocking about 20% of the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

How much a day?

Even though coconut oil is cholesterol-free, all fats have the same number of calories per gram (one tablespoon of coconut oil contains 117 calories), so if you take three tablespoons of coconut oil per day as is the recommendation, reduce the amount of other foods or increase your level of physical activity.

How to buy coconut oil?

Avoid RBD coconut oil – REFINED, BLEACHED, DEODORIZED.

For health benefits coconut oil should be purchased in the unrefined or (extra) virgin form. Coconut oils can be treated with various chemicals, and processed with very high heat, thereby compromising the health benefits of this product. Refined oils are cheaper, but the unrefined (using expeller- or cold-pressed technology) is worth the extra price.
