Essential Oils 1 – Oil the ways to get the goodness
By GOWRI KANAGARAJAH – You smell them before you see them, those shops in malls selling essential oils. And what a delight those scents are, not just pleasant like perfumes but soothing and healing. And indeed, 100% pure good quality essential oils have mental and physical benefits.
According to The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy, essential oils not only make stale surroundings smell lovely, but also have the following uses.

Essential oil use has been traced back to as far as 18,000 B.C.E., according to Healingscents.net. The earliest trace of essential oils can be found in cave paintings discovered in Lascaux in France’s Dordogne region.
They were produced in many countries, such as China, India, Greece, Egypt, Europe and Persia for purposes from medicinal to religious use.
Essential oils are now readily available and from various companies. Prices vary but as with everything pure, good things don’t come cheap. If you are going to shell out quite a lot of money for a 15ml bottle of essential oil, it definitely makes sense to find as many uses as possible to get more bang for your buck.
There are a few methods in which essential oils can be used:
- Oral consumption (Capsules)
MyOilBusiness (on WordPress) advises us to drink at least 8 cups of water along with taking these capsules of essential oils. According to them, essential oils are “much more potent than herbs or plants”, and this can cause harm to your body if consumed in an undiluted form. Drinking copious amounts of water will ensure that the unnecessary elements in the oils are flushed out of your system.
The amount of essential oils you add to your capsules can also be modified according to your needs.
- Diffusing / Inhaling
Of course, the most common method is by diffusion and inhalation.
