This little town rests on Lattari Mountains and has amazing clear view of the Mediterranean Sea. Amalfi was a medieval city, it was inhabited by the Romans who were escaping the Barbarian attacks on Rome and is truly a product of the decline of the Roman Empire. Amazing history isn’t it?

One of the places you should visit while in Amalfi is the Cathedral of St. Andrew, attributing the rich past of the Romans. It was built in the 9th century and still stands today.  It has an Arabian influenced exterior and the relics and bones of St. Andrew the Apostle kept in its crypt. It is filled with rich history as you explore the insides of the church.

Getting There:

Take the bus from Positano, Salerno, Sorrento and Naples. The SITA local bus travels all over the Amalfi Coast. It takes about 40 minutes to travel from Positano to Amalfi on good traffic days. July and August are popular months for tourists so be ready to push your way in if not it’s going to be a long wait for the next bus because there’s limited access during the Summer. Check with the Amalfi tourist office to be sure.
